Logan-Hocking School District is proud to announce that we have joined the fight against hunger in our community by partnering with Hocking College, the Joe Burrow Foundation, and 740 Rescue Kitchen.
Ginger Gagne, coordinator of 740 Rescue Kitchen, reached out to Logan-Hocking Food Service Director Cherokiee Mohler to explore whether this program could benefit our community. After reviewing the program’s positive impact in other school districts and churches, it was clear that this resource is very much needed here at home.
What does 740 Rescue Kitchen do?
740 Rescue Kitchen saves food that might otherwise be wasted from grocery stores, restaurants, and local farmers. For example, grocery stores may have an oversupply of items approaching their sell-by date, and restaurants may prepare more food than needed. This food is then transported to a facility where it is transformed into fresh, healthy meals. The meals are packaged, frozen, and distributed to individuals, families, schools, community centers, and shelters.
This is a no-questions-asked program. Families may schedule a pick-up time or have food sent home with their child. This month’s offerings include family meals, soups, and pizza rolls.
