The Logan Band program presented its annual Winter Concert on February 12 in the Logan High School Theater, showcasing the hard work and musical growth of students in grades 7–12. The evening featured performances by the 7th Grade Band, 8th Grade Band, Jazz Band, and High School Band, offering a diverse and engaging program for the community.

The 7th Grade Band opened the concert with Cimarron Fanfare by Robert Sheldon and Serengeti Dreams by Robert W. Smith, demonstrating developing tone quality and ensemble balance. The 8th Grade Band followed with Of Distant Peaks by Robert Sheldon, the spirited Spanish march El Relicario by José Padilla, and the high-energy Scream by Randall Standridge.

The Jazz Band brought a stylistic change of pace with a dynamic set that included Megalovania by Toby Fox, the swing classic Flute Salad by Oliver Nelson, Unforgettable by Irving Gordon, and the crowd-pleasing Earth, Wind, and Fire Dance Mix arranged by Paul Murtha.

The High School Band concluded the evening with a mature and expressive performance of Toccata for Band by Frank Erickson, March Bou Shu by Satoshi Yagisawa, Eire by Melanie Donahue, and Halcyon Hearts by Kathaj Copley. These selections will also be performed at the OMEA District Large Group Contest on Friday, March 13. This year’s contest is especially significant, as it will be hosted at Logan High School for the first time—an exciting milestone and a point of pride for the Logan Band program. Hosting the event provides a wonderful opportunity for the community to see outstanding band programs from across the region while highlighting Logan’s continued commitment to music education.

Director of Bands Lindsay Van Winkle praised the students for their preparation and musicianship. “This concert reflected the tremendous growth our students have shown throughout the year. Their dedication and commitment to excellence were evident in every performance.”

During the concert, the program also held a “Pass the Hat” fundraiser to support the purchase of new timpani. Thanks to the generosity of those in attendance, $769 was raised in a single evening. Community members who would still like to contribute to the timpani fund may do so at: https://logan-band-booster-association-107624.square.site/

The Logan Band program extends its sincere thanks to families, supporters, and community members for their continued encouragement and support.
