Violin Art

Southeastern Ohio students made an impressive showing this year at the internationally renowned Indianapolis Violin Competition, which uniquely integrates visual arts through its Juried Exhibition of Student Art (JESA). The Ohio Art Education Association (OAEA) proudly participated in this distinguished event, celebrating the artistic talents of students from across the state.

The Southeast Region of Ohio was especially well represented, with two middle school students selected as Regional Winners. Rylee McCloud and Avalyn Storms, both students at Logan-Hocking Middle School, earned this honor under the guidance of their teacher, Suzanne Oldham, who also serves as the OAEA Southeast Regional Director.

In addition to the regional recognition, Lily Paris of Nelsonville-York High School was named one of the prestigious Street Hadley Matthews Grand Award Winners—one of the top honors in the exhibition. Lily’s work was represented by OAEA members and educators Melissa (Sam) Campbell and Josh Woodburn of Nelsonville-York High School.

The Indianapolis Violin Competition is widely recognized as a world-class event, and its inclusion of JESA highlights the important connection between music and visual arts. The participation and success of Ohio students underscore the strength of arts education in the region.

“It is such an honor to have our students showcased in such a prestigious international competition,” said representatives from OAEA. “Their creativity, dedication, and artistic voice truly represent the excellence of Ohio’s young artists.”
