Logan, OH — Logan High School juniors Richard Acord and Soldier Roberts were recently honored with the distinguished opportunity to attend the 2025 session of Buckeye Boys State, a premier leadership and citizenship program sponsored by the American Legion. This weeklong event, held annually at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, gathers over 1,200 of Ohio’s most promising young men to form a model state government, providing them with invaluable insight into the democratic process and public service.
Buckeye Boys State is widely regarded as one of the most comprehensive and respected youth leadership programs in the nation. Participants are immersed in a hands-on, fast-paced simulation where they assume roles such as mayor, judge, legislator, law enforcement officer, and other key government positions. The program emphasizes civic responsibility, patriotism, teamwork, and the vital role of informed citizenship in maintaining a democratic society.
Richard Acord and Soldier Roberts were selected through a competitive nomination process based on their outstanding leadership, character, and commitment to service. As attendees, both young men gained real-world experience in government operations, public speaking, conflict resolution, and collaborative problem-solving — skills that will serve them far beyond the classroom. Participation in Buckeye Boys State also provides scholarship opportunities, military academy consideration, and enhanced college admission credentials.
Both Richard and Soldier have held leadership positions for at least two years in the Logan High School Air Force JROTC program, where they have demonstrated excellence in service, discipline, and peer mentorship. In addition to their dedication to JROTC, they are actively involved in numerous other student organizations within the Logan-Hocking School District, showcasing their diverse talents and commitment to making a positive impact in their school and community.
